Over 3's Learn to Swim Programme FAQ's

How old does my child need to be to attend these lessons?

Children from 3 years old can attend these lessons.

Do I get in the water with my child?

Parents do not get in the water with their children for these classes. Our highly trained instructors are in the water with the children and are always ready to help and encourage even the most nervous of swimmers. We understand that it may be a very daunting time for your child coming to swimming lessons for the first time. We will help them overcome their initial concerns and help them develop a love for the water - they will be swimming with a smile on their face in no time!

How many children are in a class?

For our beginners classes, we operate on a ratio of 4 swimmers per instructor. If there are more than 4 swimmers in a class, an additional instructor will be there. For our intermediate swimmers we operate on a ratio of 6 children per instructor, and advanced swimmers a ratio of 8 children per instructor.

How long are the lessons?

Lessons are 30 minutes in duration.

What does my child need to wear for their lesson?

Children need to wear an appropriate bathing costume - we ask that bikinis are not worn to lessons. If your child isn't completely toilet trained, please ensure that they wear a swim nappy until you are confident that they are. At Splash Central, we ask that all children wear a swimming hat - this not only ensures that our pool maintains a clean environment for children to swim in, but also keeps hair out of faces.

Can my child eat before coming swimming?

We ask that children do not eat for an hour before coming swimming. If a child is sick in the pool, the pool will have to be closed and further lessons for that session ceased.

How long after illness can my child come swimming?

If your child has suffered from sickness or diarrhea they should not enter the water for 48 hours after the symptoms have ceased.

What happens if my child misses a lesson?

Courses are booked in 10 week terms, we hold your child's space for the whole 10 weeks and cannot fill that space if your child cannot make their session. Due to our swimmer to teacher ratio's, we are no longer able to offer catch up lessons. Therefore, if you miss a lesson due to sickness, holiday or any other reason, unfortunately that lesson is missed. If Splash have to cancel a lesson, we can either carry that lesson over to a new course or we can refund you for the missed lesson.
